Learn
to Sail on Sydney Harbour with Sydney Private Sailing, a YA accredited sailing school based on Sydney Harbour at Clontarf Marina (between The Spit and
Manly).
Sailing Lessons are a nice way to meet new people, or learn to sail as a couple, or get four
friends together and fill the sailing course. A maximum of 4 students
on sailing courses means you get plenty of individual attention and lots of
practice at sail trim and steering the yacht. If you'd prefer sailing
lessons
on your own or with your partner, another way to learn to sail is to book
Private Sailing Lessons
Sailing School operates 7 days except Christmas Day. All sailing
lessons are on a luxury Catalina 320, a perfect yacht for teaching sailing
and typical of the type of yacht used for yacht charter holidays. We
follow the Yachting Australia (formerly Australian Yachting Federation)
syllabus designed to take the beginner sailor through a series of sailing
lessons, building up knowledge until at the end of your sailing courses you
will have gained the confidence and experience to charter a yacht with
friends in Sydney or the Whitsundays or crew on a yacht race.
Sailing Lessons are
on a new Catalina 32 yacht, see
Catalina 32. The yacht is very comfortable and typical of the
type of yacht you would charter for a Whitsundays Yacht Charter holiday.
Having a toilet on board means we can stay out on the boat all day.
Annie Bennett, an experienced
Yachting Australia accredited
sailing instructor,
combines a relaxed friendly approach with clear, thorough teaching. Personal attention is guaranteed through small classes
(1- 4
people) and the same instructor for all sailing lessons. Sailing school
students take equal turns
with each task - steering, ropework etc - to ensure they learn every job on the
boat. Course notes are issued at the beginning of sailing courses.
Sailing Course dates are not advertised
as Annie is very flexible and prefers to fit in with sailing school
students' requirements. Just call on 0413 217 114 to discuss
when you would like to start.
Once you have booked and paid your deposit, you must give at least 14
days notice to reschedule a trip.
The 12 hours
(10am - 4pm) on the
water for each sailing course usually take place either on two consecutive Saturdays or Sundays or over a weekend.
Weekday lessons are arranged to fit your schedule.
You won't just
learn to sail, the sailing courses also cover basic essentials you would
need if you are planning a sailing charter holiday like starting and
stopping the engine, operating the VHF radio, anchoring and using the
stove. We always put the kettle on for a cup of coffee at lunchtime.
If you don’t have time to do a full sailing course, come for a one day sailing lesson at a pro
rata cost. Students who have completed a course can redo any course
for revision and to gain experience for just $100 for the day.
What to bring -
bring a sandwich and a soft drink
for lunch. You will need a hat, sunglasses and sunscreen. Please wear shoes with white or light coloured soles, definitely no
black soled
shoes as they will mark the decking.
Gift Vouchers are available and make an ideal
birthday or Christmas present.
